Monkey See, Monkey Do

Addie likes monkeys. Well, gorillas. There's a particular issue of National Geographic that we have that has a nice big article on gorillas, with lots of pictures, which Addie likes to flip through from time to time. So a while back when the issue first came my mom went through it with Addie and taught her to say "Ooh ooh ooh" for the gorillas, something Addie picked up on quickly.

So last weekend we took a trip to St. Louis to see family, and while there we went to the zoo. We were admittedly expecting a gush of excitement from Addie after seeing all the animals, but the experience seemed to be a little overwhelming, what with all the animals and people and everything. Still, once we got to the gorilla exhibit she let out a very quiet, collected "ooh ooh ooh" a few times, and we can't really ask for much more than that.

Then they've got a neat penguin exhibit which she seemed to enjoy. If it weren't for the loud squawking and strong stench, the rest of us probably would have enjoyed it a little more, too.

Get there before 10:00 a.m. and you get in free at the Children's Zoo section, which we took advantage of. Our child has sprouted an otter body:

And in an inside section of the Children's Zoo was a meerkat (think Timon from The Lion King) pen with a large glass wall so the kids could watch them run around. Again, Addie was a little overwhelmed, but she seemed interested in the things.
