When Animal Crackers Attack (and Other Pictures of Horror)
So it turns out we're not the best at regularly updating the blog. Didn't see that one coming...
Anyway, Addie is changing so much. She has, within the last week, finally begun crawling on her knees, which means she gets places much quicker than she used to. She's quite good at cruising, holding onto the chair or couch or table and moving right along. Now she has gotten into the habit of finding her way along the coffee table to whatever goodies we don't want her to have -- keys, cell phones, pens, remotes, etc. It seems as though she has a sort of sixth sense that tells her exactly what we don't want her to have, and to that she goes.
In other exciting news, Addie pooped on the floor this afternoon. We took her diaper off of her when we got home from church and let her roam around half naked, getting some fresh air on her rear end. And while she was standing, holding onto the coffee table, I looked down and said, "What's that?" From a distance it appeared as though there were a dead leaf on the floor by her feet, sort of a yellow-ish brown color. Then I took a closer look and realized that that "leaf" had a little more, er, substance to it, and that it was indeed poop. It wasn't only on the carpet, though; Addie had a chunk of leaf on her left hand, her stomach, and smeared across her right foot. That may have been the fastest trip to the bathtub on record.
We've been intentional thus far about letting Addie feed herself rather than us trying to feed her. In other words, we give her small amounts of food and allow her to work out for herself how to eat it rather than putting it on a spoon and feeding her that way. That way, she can stop eating when she's done eating, not when we're done feeding her. (At this point, however, she is still almost exclusively breastfed, though she's beginning to eat more and more solids as we go.) If the previous post with the avocado wasn't testament enough to the joys of this method, then we offer you now an abbreviated record of a recent run-in with an animal cracker.
Addie now has two sets of blocks with which she plays, at least as well as she can at this age. Each set of blocks came from a set (is that the right word?) of great aunts and uncles of Ame's. It's amusing to us how much she enjoys just reaching in and pulling the blocks out.
And, lastly, a couple of random pictures that are quite cute. One playing in the laundry (diapers, to be exact), and the other sitting in the recliner (and quite enjoying it).
